About Congaree Presbyterian Church
Congaree began its fifty year history on March 29,1953.
A handful of dedicated people with a vision for a community church called Dr. Thomas B. Hoover as their first pastor.
Dr. Hoover served until 1955 and was followed by Rev. Claude McIntosh who served until 1967. Dr. Phil Spencer became
our pastor in 1967 and remained until he retired in 1997. Today we have Rev. John D. White who came to Congaree
in 1998.
Our fifty years have been filled with many innovative
ministries. Currently we have active adult and youth choirs, a Bible Study, a "Ys Guys" group (ages 4-12), a budding middle and senior high youth group,
a multiage adult social group (Second Saturday), a community ministry group (The Mariners), Scouting programs,
a men's breakfast club, and four active women's circles. We also have a dedicated Prison Ministry. We are active
partners with other churches in our Cayce community in "God's Helping Hands", a ministry of service to those
in critical needs. These ministries serve our church, local, national and international communities.
Rev. White, the Session, and the various committees
of the Church are continually looking for more and better ways to serve the Lord through Christian action and
Christian love. When you visit our church, it is our prayer that you will feel welcome and will know that you are
loved and needed as an individual, and will be accepted by all as one of God's children.
